Frequently Asked Questions

When will this change be effective?

Alaska Orthopedic Specialists (AOS) will officially join AFOC as of January 1, 2027. Effective on that date, AOS patients will have the opportunity to continue their care with AFOC. We will work to ensure a smooth transition.

Which new specialties will AFOC offer?

As part of this alliance, AFOC will welcome two highly experienced orthopedic surgeons: Traumatologist Dr. Tyler Smith, who specializes in severe orthopedic trauma, and Dr. Jason Gray, who brings extensive expertise in sports medicine and upper extremity care.

Why did AOS decide to join AFOC?

AOS was already a very strong orthopedic clinic in Alaska. However, by joining our practice, their physicians will be able to focus even more deeply on patient care. At the same time, they will benefit from AFOC’s additional services, infrastructure, and resources, such as physical therapy, massage, podiatry and physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R).

Will there be any change to my care as an AFOC patient?

No. Your care will continue as planned with your current provider and care team. Starting January 1, 2027, AOS will join our team, expanding the range of providers and services available to you.
