Brandt C. Buckner, MD

Dr. Brandt Buckner is a fellowship-trained, board-eligible orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement, revision joint replacement and orthopedic trauma. His practice encompasses primary joint replacement as well as complex cases involving failed hip and knee replacements.

Originally from Mountain Home, Idaho, Dr. Buckner completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Dr. Buckner received advanced fellowship training in adult reconstruction at Indiana University and the Indiana Orthopedic Institute in Indianapolis. He trained under Dr. Michael Meneghini, a former president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and an internationally recognized leader in hip and knee replacement. This experience prepared Dr. Buckner to tailor surgery to each patient’s anatomy, goals and activity level.

Dr. Buckner believes every stage of orthopedic care should be intentionally coordinated — from the initial evaluation and nonsurgical treatment through preoperative education, surgery, pain management and rehabilitation. He uses evidence-based surgical techniques and technologies to support recovery, restore function and provide care suited to the individual patient.

His research interests include implant longevity, complex revision surgery, prosthetic joint infection and improving how patients prepare for and recover from joint replacement. He continually evaluates advances in orthopedic care and incorporates them into his practice when supported by strong clinical evidence.

Dr. Buckner was drawn to orthopedics because of the tangible difference it can make in a person’s daily life. He finds it rewarding to restore the mobility patients need to walk their dogs, keep up with their grandchildren and participate in the activities they value.

Outside of work, Dr. Buckner enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristin, who was born and raised in Alaska, and their four children. As a family, they enjoy hiking, skiing, camping, fishing and biking.
